A Hair Update

Look – my hair and I have a very complicated relationship. I go out of my way to buy it nice things, take care of it, and just overall do the most for it. And it just falls out willy nilly whenever I get the slightest bit stressed.

The last time I really updated you on my hair routine was in 2016! My Favourite Hair Products Post – and here’s the thing, those are still my favourite products come 2019. But since then I’ve added a few products as well. I figured I would share with you what I am still using and what has changed!

Shampoo & Conditioner

I am super picky with hair products. I need them to do exactly what they promise every time. I only wash my hair 1-2x a week so I need a shampoo and conditioner that both cleans and hydrates my hair leaving it feeling fresh but not stripped. Over the past year I’ve tried other brands and products, nothing comes close to these two (so goodbye $$$).

OILS

I still use the Verb Ghost Oil, and I really like it, its hydrating but not heavy and it doesn’t leave a smell. But I’ve had it for over a year and I’m definitely ready to move onto something new. Currently, I’m deciding between the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil ($45 for a travel size YIKES) and the Ouai Hair Oil ($35 again yikes). I think I’m leaning towards the Gisou one and am happy to splurge but I want to try it before I spend so much on it!

Masks

LOOK – I know they say its not a mask, its a ~treatment~, but it goes on my head and stays there for a bit so I’m calling it a mask. That is the Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3. LITERALLY, the only bad thing I can say about this is that it is SO expensive. I only use it like once every 6 weeks because at $30 a bottle and the fact I need a 1/3 every time I use it makes it a super expensive mask. However, if you have ever bleached your hair you NEED this.

A newer product is the Pureology Strength Condition Repair Mask – you know I love the shampoo and conditioner, and it was on sale. I will not be disclosing how much I paid for this because honestly, I can’t really believe it myself. I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking? BUT I bought it and I love it so #noragrets

My last mask to mention is the Kristin Ess Reconstructive Moisture Mask. It’s thick and hydrating and a really nice mask. Its also lasted quite a while! I only use it about once a month but I like how it smells and it is so affordable! I can’t wait until she puts it in a tube! I find tub masks like this so messy and much prefer a squeeze out mask!

Another honourable mention is the Amika Nourishing Mask. I got a sample in my January Allure box and just tried it out. I used almost this whole travel size on my head because it was SO THICK and I have a lot of hair. But despite the smell of this I really love it? My hair felt so soft and healthy! I would love to try it again and a few of their other masks and products too!

MISC

Kristin Ess Air Dry Creme – I’ve talked about this before in my Holiday Hydration Heroes post. So you can read more of my thoughts there, but essentially, this is just nice on the days I decide to dry my hair naturally. It helps tames it and seems to smooth some of the flyaways. I would really love to try the blow dry mist aswell but it is always sold out!

I bought the Kristin Ess Hair Tint because it was on sale (are you seeing a common theme for me) and because the set came with those GORGEOUS little bobby pins. I’ve tried it, and it was nice but pinks just not my thing, however, she just came out with an amethyst one and I am all about that! I’ve had purple hair before and I loved it so I will 100% be purchasing it!

Ouai Scalp Scrub – I got this mini sample in my Allure box and I’m was so interested to try it. My sister and I always make a trip to the Ouai section when we’re in Sephora because we are so intrigued but never enough to buy it. I’m excited to try this and see how it goes, Kristin Ess also makes a scalp scrub I would like to try!

So, that is what’s new with my hair! What products have you tried and loved lately?
